Thanks for linking to the post about disabilities in church. I’m excited to report that our family’s church had a special service tonight for people with disabilities, and tomorrow I’m taking my kids to their first mass for people with disabilities!
Funny enough, my best road trip was with my husband and the same kids as we moved from California to Ohio in summer 2021. We stayed in a different place every night: visiting extended family, RV camping, farmhouse AirBNB, and a hotel in downtown Chicago. We loved the variety. The kids followed along on a felt map and liked anticipating the next day’s adventure.
I don't have any road trip wisdom to share but if you heard a shriek of laughter emanating from St. Paul at about 8:30 PM on Wednesday night, it was me and my husband responding to our favorite line in last week's episode of Ted Lasso - "What's a CD?" 🤣🤣 Honorable mention goes to "I beg to differ, Claudia Schiffer", which has now entered our marital lexicon.
Age 11, road trip from Louisiana to Florida to go to Disney the first time. We rented a 16 passenger van to take my parents, me, little sis and bro, two grandmothers, a grandfather, and a motorized scooter in the same vehicle. It was the 90s, my mom bought an inverter and a tiny TV/vcr combo so we could watch movies. The most fun was my aunt made us a package of gifts to open every two hours-an autograph book, a cool pen, a car game, etc. It was quite the adventure.
My favorite road trip was the one my best friend and I took over spring break of our senior year of college. We named it MLAREM - Mary and Laura's Awesome Roadtrip of Extreme Magnitude. 😄 We traveled from Michigan to Knoxville, TN to the Charleston area to central NJ to NYC to Reading, PA to Pittsburgh and then back home. The stops were based on where family and friends lived and they were so generous and hospitable to us. And we still liked each other after all that time spent in her 2-door Pontiac Sunfire!
Seriously I could write books about Road trip adventures and misadventures and even a few miracles our family has experienced! Some of our most memorable were with all five kids and pulling a popup trailer camping across country. Teddy Roosevelt National Park highlight: being held up by a procession of very large bison, watching a mom bison nurse her baby right in front of our car. Another memory: pulling into and out of a California state Park with a handwritten sign: if you see a mountain lion in the campground report it to the rangers please! Then there was the trip where every possible car thing happened, even blowing a radiator hose climbing the pass into Denver (on a highway that was not as wide as it is now, no room to pull off!) That whole trip had so many angels watching over us it deserves a book.
