I caught my breath as well when I read her name. Laura, you are going through an agonizing journey, yet you continue to make us laugh, listen, think, pray and plead. I send many prayers to you at random times of the day (and wee hours when sleep eludes). That you for your grace, your writing and your beautiful witness of God’s living hand in all our lives. May Peace be with you always. Big hugs!
Oh my goodness what beautiful, transcendent writing. Anyone who has ever been hospitalized or been with a loved one in the hospital becomes (or ought to become) acutely aware of the awe-ful reality of human interdependence. This piece evokes the meaning of that reality in a way that strikes the soul.
I just shared this with my husband who is an anesthesiologist. Thank you for sharing this experience. This kind of compassion is what we should all strive to give.
anesthesia and all numbing attempts and pain meds don't work on me either. it is very frightening and it is also hard when people are callous about it or act like you are making it up. i'm glad you had a good experience 🖤
What an incredible grace and mercy during such a scary time, Laura. WOW! I imagine as much as Peace was a comfort and true angel for you, your trust in her to take care of you was a gift to her too. A reminder for all of us to listen with compassion and act with love.
Such a deep exhale that you were beheld and held in that grace-filled way – and that you were so present to it, Laura. I'm praying for you more than ever in these current days.
Tears were welling as I approached the end of this essay, the last line caused my heart to swell so much that they tumbled down my cheeks.
Just beautiful, Laura !!

Thank you, Laura, for sharing. What a touching story. I'm so glad Peace took such great care of you both before and while you had surgery.

Every medical professional who is serious about healing needs to read this and embody this. Because then we are not simply a patient, we are human.
Goosebumps. What a world it would be if we were all that present and gentle with each other.
Oh Laura, thank you for sharing this! I’m so grateful that you experienced the gift of Peace ❤️
Beautiful!
