For 12 solid months, I’ve kicked one can down the winding road of my to-do list.
Offer paid subscriptions to newsletter.
Next month, I’d tell myself, turning back to writing because I’d always rather write.
But as the months rolled on—especially since I’ve made The Holy Labor a weekly offering—I’d find myself facing the classic conundrum of the writer torn between inspiration and invoices.
Can I keep spending time and energy on work that doesn’t pay?
I want to keep The Holy Labor going. I want it to be available and accessible to anyone who wants to read. But as a writer with limited time, I have to discern my work wisely.
So today I’m inviting you to join in supporting this work you’ve enjoyed.
I’m opening up The Holy Labor to paid subscriptions in the hope that the community we’re creating will help keep it going—and keep the door open.
Here’s my plan:
For now, the weekly posts will stay free for everyone. I’ll continue the rhythm of an original essay one week and a round-up of others’ holy labor the next week.
Sharing and supporting other people’s good work is the heart of The Holy Labor; I want this to continue. I’ve also loved the chance to get back to long-form writing with these essays, and I know many of you are looking for less time scrolling on social media, too.
So everything will stay the same here.
But paid subscribers will get even more:
Live Q&As where we can connect & you can ask questions
Bonus material: extra offerings winging your way
Original prayers or poetry that I can’t wait to share
My deep and undying gratitude for supporting my work
Subscriptions start at $5/month—like having coffee together on a Saturday. Or you can get a discount for a yearly subscription at $50/year.
If you’d like to support my work (present & future) in a big way, you can become a Founding Member. For $150 per year (or more, if you’d like) you’ll get all the perks of paid subscribers plus a free signed book of your choice.
Whether you can support this work through a paid subscription right now or not, I am grateful for your prayers and appreciate all the free ways you encourage my work as well.
Every time you comment, forward to a friend, or click reply to send me a note, you make this work possible. Most importantly, any time you sit and ponder or pray with these words, you bring my hope to life.
Thank you for being a partner in this holy labor.
Paid subscribers will get their first chance to connect & chat on Zoom next week, so check your email! Mark your calendar for Thursday, April 28, at 7:30 p.m. CT to join us.
Peace,
Laura
